Question 6: What have you learned about the technologies
from the process of constructing the product?

Throughout the main task during the planning
stage (in order to research into thriller genres and makes my posts on
certain software’s which would not be available on a usual desktop. The
creation stage when we edited our product using the apple macs and during the
evaluation stage when answering Question 2.
|
·
Apple Mac’s tend to be industry standard
·
Therefore professional software’s and
presentations can be used.
|
·
Information may be wrong or inaccurate due to
anyone being able to edit the information
·
Reliability of the Mac computers always being
accessible and functioning correctly is sometimes a risk as sometimes there
is errors with the Mac’s and therefore information cannot be easily accessed
·
Self-control is needed in order to avoid
immediate copy and paste from sources which you find
|
·
Having used the Mac has allowed me to improve
my editing skills through the Final Cut process in which I only knew very few
skills before. However now I know new skills such as how to take sound out of
text and how to then modify the speech by changing the tempo.

·
During the filming/production of our opening
sequence
·
During the research and planning process to
take images of my work to upload to the macs and post to my blog.
|
·
We were advised that it would be better to
film using mobiles phones as the footage would be clearer for the audience
than using the camera equipment. Also we have familiarity with recording
using a IPhone whereas we may have struggled to understand how to control a
digital camera initially.
|
·
Easy to Use and understand how to film
·
More portable (moveable) than a film camera.
Therefore it is easy to move from the various locations which we had to do a
lot in our opening sequence filming.
|
·
|

·
The internet was used during the research and
planning stage I used the internet in order to research ‘actual’ thriller
films such as ‘The Presige’ and ‘Limitless’ in order to see the codes and
conventions stereotypically used in the Thriller genre as well as researching
the Thriler genre as a whole as well as sub genres and hybrids.
|
·
Information is easily accessible and there is
a lot of content to choose from therefore meaning there is more information
you could use meaning that due to being able to study a mass number of texts
means that more can be said during work tasks.
|
·
There is more content of information than in a
book as well as more variety in content.
|
· Improvement on my research skills.

I used Prezi for a number of my posts. I used
this form of technology twice in the research

For our Survey work during the final stages of
research and planning

·
A simple way to ask questions and find our
answer to what certain age categories would expect and like to see in
Thriller Film. We then used this information to apply our feedback to our
film and make it more appropriate for our target audience based on their
feedback.

A link can be posted to facebook/twitter
therefor awareness of the survey is given to a bigger audience and therefore
is available for more people to fill out and therefore we would have more

How to create an online survey. This may
benefit me in the future for similar media products when I need to ask about
audience preference in films or could possibly be used to get feedback on a
future product I may produce or have involvement in.

Evaluation 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The original certification of our film was a 12 rating as we thought this would be an appropriate age rating due to the psychological content being quite intense as well as some of the themes being quite confusing anyway for a stereotypical 12 year old as the entire film narrative can be quite confusing. Therefore even without the psychological content it would be inappropriate.
During the research stage of the coursework task I researched a number of different films such as :
All of the films above were certificated in an age range from PG-13-18. The film seven was branded as a 15 age rating like our product. Personally after reflecting on other media products such as this one I believe we should not have put our age certificate at such a high level however my group and other audience feedback members disagreed with this.
During our questionnaires we asked a range of age groups about their what they would expect and like to see within a thriller film. Our survey was categorised into 3 age ranges (13-15,16-18,19-25)
The age bracket who's results we based our work on the most were the 13-15 to a certain degree but mainly the 16-18 age group as this is the first age grou where our certification rating covers all the ages.)
Our results showed that our target audience would be interested in Psychological Thrillers as apposed to Violent Thrillers therefore we used this element in our work as well as it overall being more interesting for the narrative and many thought a thriller film should feature a death however we believed that the combination of a death and experimentation would be too much to put into an opening sequence.
Therefore our target audience is of people of both genders as it is not gender specific who like stereotypical connotations of psychological thrillers (as explained in Question 5) and is of a 15 age rating.
